July 23 - July 26, 2025
60 hours of action and storytelling to protect 60 years of progress and build the next 60 years of care.
What we did
The What:
We held a 60-hour vigil on the National Mall in D.C. in honor of the 60th anniversary of Medicaid and Medicare, with these very care programs under attack.
July also marked Disability Pride Month, and the 35th anniversary of the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
Families across the country – especially older adults and disabled people – will suffer the consequences of this disastrous decision from Congress. We brought together a wide coalition of care advocates to fight for the care we all deserve.
The Why:
Congress has passed a budget that will cut nearly a trillion dollars from Medicaid to pay for tax giveaways for the wealthiest and biggest corporations. We know that Medicaid isn’t a line item in a budget, but a lifeline for millions of families across the U.S.
Over the course of 60 hours, we held our elected leaders accountable for this disastrous decision that will hurt all of our families and communities.
The When:
From July 23rd at 9:00 p.m. until 9:00 a.m. ET on the 26th, we shared our stories and took action to hold our elected leaders accountable for their decision to cut our care.
We held a national call-a-thon to hold our elected leaders accountable. We came together across faiths and cultures for an interfaith prayer service. We held a training for more effective storytelling and advocacy. We brought together people of all ages for a community care table – envisioning a better future for care.
After the vigil, we kicked off a national day of distributed actions hosted by Families First. In all 50 states and Washington D.C., Families First rallies demanded care over the cruel cuts and attacks on families that we’re seeing from Congress and the White House. We came together to say in unity: our families come first.
Our Stories
80 million people in the U.S. depend on Medicaid. We’re sharing our stories.
